Govt to set up 20 State Cancer Institutes and 50 Tertiary Cancer Care Centres - Anupriya Patel, MoS, Health and Family Welfare


The government of India plans to set up 20 State Cancer Institutes and 50 Tertiary Cancer Care Centres. This was revealed by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel at ASSOCHAM’s Women’s Health Confluence on Prevention and Cure of Cancers and Thyroid Disorders in New Delhi. The Minister added that the biggest challenge in combating Cancer was early detection and outlined the government’s approach to the problem. Addressing the gathering President of ASSOCHAM – Sandeep Jajodia stated that women’s health should be a priority for India. He observed that many cases simply go undetected due to ignorance about the symptoms. Delivering the theme address, Director, Medical Services, Turacos Healthcare Solutions – Dr. Namrata Singh called for greater stress on prevention of diseases. She also refuted the misconception that rural women are more vulnerable to undernourishment than urban women. Presenting the Industry’s perspective, the Chairman of ASSOCHAM’s National Council on Drugs and Pharmaceuticals – Dr. Rakesh Chitkara noted that with massive changes in lifestyle and demographics, India was witnessing a rise in Non-Communicable Diseases. This could spell massive losses for the India economy he added. He called for greater cooperation between the government and the private sector to address this problem. The event also saw discussions on the Prevention, Detection, and Cure of Cancers and Thyroid Disorders in Women besides a felicitation ceremony for the best performers in the field of Women’s Healthcare.
